Slow Pole Dancing Songs—A Playlist for Sensual Flow & Floorwork

By Susan Peach

Slow music can sometimes feel harder to dance to—but it’s where you build real control, flow, and confidence.

Because everything is slowed down, you have more time to really focus on details like perfecting a basic walk or placing a hand just so for understated emphasis. And these details really make a difference to your pole routines and performances.

This playlist features sensual, slower-tempo music that’s perfect for practicing transitions, flow, and floorwork—whether you're a beginner just getting familiar with these concepts, or an experienced pole dancer experimenting with different styles.

These slow pole dancing songs were chosen because:

  • They have an easy to follow rhythm—no complicated musical phrasing to deal with, so you can just focus on your flow
  • The tempo is slow and measured—ideal for slow/low flow and for encouraging you to really focus on your body movement
  • They offer lots of variety in terms of mood—dreamy, sultry, provocative, intense, etc. so you'll have plenty of options in finding a song that really speaks to you

What Makes a Good Slow Pole Dancing Song?

Of course there are lots of slow songs out there, in all genres. But some work much better for pole than others. The best slow pole dancing songs have a few key qualities in common that make them a natural choice, whether for practice or performance.

  • Steady tempo – slow doesn't always = predictable in music. So if you're wanting a slow pole dancing song to work on specific skills like refining your basic walk or timing a pirouette, then a song with a regular tempo is best. Otherwise, you may get frustrated with unexpected changes in the speed of the music, as these can distract you from the skills you're trying to practice.
  • Clear phrasing – again, if you're using a slow pole dancing song to work on refining your technique, you want a piece of music that you don't have to think about. Using a song with clear phrasing helps you anticipate transitions in the song more easily because you know what's coming next.
  • Emotional tone – the specific mood can vary enormously in slow pole dancing songs, ranging from dark, edgy or defiant to dreamy, sorrowful, or tranquil. But ideally you want your slow songs to have a clear tone or mood, because that supports your own ability to express yourself through the music.
  • Space in the music – this is a bit of an abstract concept, but a powerful one. A song that is too "busy" or that has a lot of "hits" tends to feel rushed or "crowded." What you're looking for here is a song that gives you time and space to move comfortably and confidently, given your specific movement goals. Slower songs with more space tend to have a more powerful feel because they feel less cluttered and more focused on the tone they are trying to convey.

In summary, slow music is ideal for helping you master control, fluidity, and connection to the music through movement, whether you're performing tricks or doing floorwork. Next time you're searching for some slow pole dance music for your practice, give some thought to these qualities so you can choose a song that helps you achieve your goals.

Tips for Dancing to Slow Pole Songs

One of the things pole dancing teaches us is how to slow down. In fact, dancing slowly can actually feel harder than moving to fast music. Lots of pole dancers have a really difficult time with this, so if slow pole dancing is a challenge for you, you're not alone.

Here are some practical tips to help you not only go with the flow of a slow pole dancing song, but feel more comfortable and even confident with the process.

  • Slow down even more than the music
Most beginners rush slow songs, but you don't need to fill every beat with movement. That's a revelation to lots of pole dancers, especially those new to the sport or those who haven't had much experience with dance in general. Sometimes the most powerful movements are those that take their time unfolding through several/many beats. Just remember, there's no hurry here. Take your time and experiment with how long it takes you to progress through a sequence, or even a single movement. You might be surprised at the results!
  • Focus on transitions, not tricks
You may consider pole tricks to be the star of your pole show, but flow is built in the transitions. Yes, tricks are impressive, and they can absolutely be a part of your slow pole choreography. But to really show them off to best effect, you'll want to provide contrast. That's where your slow flow and smooth transitions come in. Work on your tricks, but take full advantage of these slow pole dancing songs to perfect your transitions.
  • Repeat, repeat, repeat
As with anything new you're learning, whether that's a new language, a new recipe, or a new pole skill, repetition is key. Ideally, you want to get to the point where you feel the music instead of trying to translate what you're hearing into what to do next. And that only comes through repetition: listening and moving to the same kind of music (or even the same song if you like) over and over and over.
  • Use the floor
Slow songs are perfect for basework or low pole moves, and using this space can help you drop into a different zone that makes slowing down easier. Especially if you're having trouble learning to move to slow songs, getting off your feet and down on the floor can really help. Doing this shifts your perspective and often allows you to tap into a different style of movement that is naturally slower and more expressive.
