I would like to learn to pole dance but I can't dance. Can I still learn, and also where in the Newmarket Ontario Canada area can I go where the women are not all barbie dolls?
Susan from PDFF replies:
Hello Mystery Girl, thanks for stopping by!
OK, I have a little story to tell you. When my son was 6 years old I enrolled him in swimming lessons. We live on an island after all, so I thought this would be a good idea.
When I told him that he'd be starting his swimming lessons in a few days, he got a bit panicked and replied, "mom I can't take swimming lessons...I don't know how to swim!"
Or, to quote Pablo Picasso, "I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it."
So the not-so-short answer is YES! You can learn to pole dance even if you think you can't dance now.
In fact, I tell my students that if they think they have two left feet, or no sense of rhythm, then pole dancing is perfect for them. That's because there are no requirements for moving to a certain count, no complicated footwork patterns to learn, and you don't even have to be "on beat" to look great....really!
As for part 2 of your question, I did managed to find one studio located in Newmarket, but I'm afraid I can't speak to the "Barbie factor" as I live on the other side of the country so I haven't been to this particular studio myself.
It's called Spinbuddies (sounds warm and friendly!) and you can visit their website here: http://www.spinbuddies.com/
I hope this helps, and I wish you much fun and enjoyment with your pole dancing adventure!
